Ice skating

It looks like we went ice skating just in time as the river skating trails may be closed very soon.  Saturday was a perfect day for skating, there was free hot chocolate on the river, and a nice wood fire next to the canopy-covered rink.   Some students have been learning to skate already, and for some students it was their first time on skates.

Coming Up

Don't forget we will be going skating this Saturday, Feb 23rd, at the Forks.  We will meet at 1:00.

Also, we will be going to Kawaii Crepe for lunch on March 15th, and the restaurant will be featured on TV tonight on the Food Channel's You Gotta Eat Here!  show.  There is a write up in today's Winnipeg Free Press about it here

New Canadian Cooking & Living Workshop

Yesterday evening was our Canadian Cooking and Living Workshop for our new semester 2 students.  Though almost no one had cooked before, most of the food turned out!

New Semester Start

The new semester is underway!  Last weekend we went to the Manitoba Museum, and then out for some poutine.

We also had a lunch at each high school this week to welcome the new students and in honour of Chinese New Year.  Last night was the John Taylor Open House, and some of our students were there as well:

There is a lot to do around Winnipeg this weekend with both a Chinese New year Celebration at Pantages Theatre on Saturday night and the ever popular Festival du Voyageur in St. Boniface, which takes place from February 15th to 24th.  There is a lot to see and do, and it's a great winter event.

Chance to Ski in February

The Winnipeg Free Press plans one day Saturday ski trips to Assessippi Ski Area & Resort, about 4 hours drive from Winnipeg.  Everything is included, including transportation, food, ski rental, and even lessons if you need them (for a small extra fee).  This is a great chance to try some skiing while you are here.  You can call the number to register.
