Culture Days in Winnipeg this Weekend

Culture Days: Sept 28, 29 & 30, 2012 - Celebrating Arts + Culture from Coast to Coast

Join Canadians in hundreds of cities and towns across the country during the third annual Culture Days weekend!

The third annual Culture Days weekend will take place September 28, 29 and 30, 2012, and will feature thousands of free, hands-on, interactive activities that invite the public to participate “behind-the-scenes,” to discover the world of artists, creators, historians, architects, curators, designers and other creative people in their communities.

For a list of all of the local activities in Winnipeg, check their website at http://mb.culturedays.ca/en/activities/list

Everything is free, and there is everything from free admission to the Winnipeg Art Gallery (featuring a new Winnipeg artists exhibition), chocolate making demonstrations here in St. James, backstage at the Manitoba Theatre Centre, an aerial dance performance at the Forks, and a half-time concert at the Winnipeg Blue Bombers game (which we will be attending).  This is a great chance to check out a lot of different performances and venues for free.

Canadian Cooking and Living Workshop #1 & Art Gallery

This week we had our first of 5 Canadian Cooking and Living Workshops, where our new John Taylor students made and ate spaghetti and chocolate chip cookies.  Everyone made great food!

Also this week about 25 students went to the Winnipeg Art Gallery in the afternoon on early dismissal day.  The Art Gallery was installing a new show, but we did get to see paintings from their collection as well as an exhibition of Inuit sculpture.

A New Year Underway!

It has been a busy start to the new school year, with about 140 students from 10 different countries. The first thing we did was go out for food, of course!  Here are some pictures from our lunch at the Original Pancake House.
